Hi, I'm Gem Freeman, Jewellery Designer & Craftswoman.
My love of jewellery and objets d’art overcame my world and the pursuit to master an age-old skill began. Designing and making silver, gold and leather jewellery from the showroom based in Hampshire, England. Loving objects that are beautiful, stylish and out of the ordinary, and a passion for travel, the sea and fashion continue to inspire all my collections.
I have designed some very diverse pieces that have evolved into various collections to suit different passions and jewellery expectations. I see jewellery as a fundamental way to express personality throughout time and position.
I work mainly in silver yet enjoy working with gold and increasingly using semi precious stones and Rough Diamonds.
Taking on commissions I'll create the perfect piece of jewellery for you or for any occasion.
I like to go “straight into the metal” early on in the design process to get a feel of what the piece will finish as. Sometimes I will use wax to create a design mould and it’s such an interesting medium to work with after sculpting metal. Other times I use nature to guide me, for example, the collection Barbados are shells found in the Caribbean, which I have had cast into solid silver pendants. Living within the New Forest, I am constantly inspired by the beautiful surroundings.
In 2013 I won Business Mother of the Year Dorset 2013 at the Venus Awards. This award system recognises women in business. In 2014 Gem returned to the Womens Awards as sponsor of the category Home Based Business and again in 2015 as sponsor of the Customer Service Award. I am extremely inspired and grateful to be involved with inspirational women and men in the local community.
February 2017 saw the opening of Gem of England, a beautiful showroom shop in Burley, New Forest. I had a vision to create a working shop where you can see jewellery being crafted, along with shopping for other beautiful pieces of furniture and unique gifts.
In September 2019 I collaborated with Emma and collectively we have re-launched Gem of England to the beautiful 'Burley Lifestyle' shop.
and I'm Emma Jane Betsy, Interior Designer and Silk Florist
I've evolved over the years, originating in my working life as a graphic designer, then progressing to a Landscape Garden Designer and finally finding my destiny in Interior Design over a decade or so ago.
Studying this skill emanated in America in the 90s whilst on a year long work placement.
On my return to the UK I pursued this dream and continued my studies at the KLC School Of Design in Chelsea.
Whist working over the years on some magnificent projects, designing, styling and completing the look of many rooms with new colour schemes, furniture, soft furnishings and ornaments, I stumbled upon a hidden talent whilst searching for such things, silk flowers. The artificial flowers available in the shops were mass produced and made without love or consideration for the design or combination of the flowers. They just weren't impressive enough.
So my new venture Foreverlasting Flowers began, an additional service to offer my clients, running alongside Emma Jane Interiors. I now make one off pieces or commission arrangements as requested that look as real as they can in unique, beautiful containers complimenting their surroundings and lasting a lifetime.
I was introduced to Gem in early 2019 and embarked on sharing the Gem Of England shop with Gem, a place where my flowers would be showcased, loved and taken to their new homes.
One thing led to another and Gem and I decided to revamp and relaunch the shop, offering beautiful interiors and handcrafted jewellery. The array of things on offer have truly evolved with demand since doing so.
